When I first time saw the Cavall Berat in Photo. I thought, " Wow, I wish I could climb this Tower! " It's look so exposed!
The monastery looks mysterious, according of isolation.
Well, that's deception and invention I found it out later.
Recently I had a chance to climb, as we headed for Siurana. Montserrat is not so far from Barcelona,
which one of cheapest and easiest destinations favored by many for the fantastic winter climate,
so that we can combine with other Rocks from Costa Durada climb. For example Siurana.
On a first day we found small climbing Shop in Monistrol. Friendly Shopkeeper explained us about the "Punsola Reniu". Topo,
access and till small details. We only missed good weather!
We spent a night in Refugio Cicila, cheap and clean. Next morning we took a trek to Cavall Berat,
which is just go over Refugio passage parallel to Car pass.
Approach is easy and trek is beautiful.
About half hour or so, we standing just blow at spectacular Tower.
We crawled about 100 Meters up narrow dirty gully to start. It's obvious beginnings. Fortunately we have only one party ahead of us. First four pitches was easy. Then wall goes to steeper and exposed.
and after five pitches, two pitches of 6b climb is pumpy!
Conglomerate Pebble is much smaller then Meteora in Greece. Slabs, pockets and ledges are very delicate, but not really serious challenges, because extremely well bolted! On the Top we enjoyed fantastic view from Montserrat!
Besides that the outermost ugly excessive car pilgrims to monastery, killed the charm. Well, it little matters. Via "Punsola Reniu" is an excellent multi pitches sport climbing route. It's worth to do it, just because of ambiance!
